News at the Course:
The Bills Are All Paid Off!  Man, that is music to my ears!  No, I am not talking about my bills.  With three darling daughters, that is far from happening, but the bills at
Lincoln Valley are all, and I mean all, caught up and paid off.  Even the cart fiasco has been put out of our minds.  The past rent has been paid and all overdrafts from the banks have been taken care of.  For those of us on the board and staff who have gone through the troubled times the past few years, it is an unbelievable sense of relief.  So thank you, everyone, who has contributed and helped save the course.  We never want to get into that same financial bind again, so if you have not paid your '08 dues yet, please do so, and if you are someone who has paid your dues, find a friend to join the course and ride the hide tide we are about to enjoy!

Your History Lesson:  "Fore!"
The word fore is Scottish in origin and is a shortened version of the word "before" or "afore."  The old Scottish warning, essentially meaning "look out ahead," probably originated in military circles where it was used by artillery men as a warning to troops in foreword positions.  Golfers as early as the 18th Century simply adopted this military warning for use on the links.

Montana Golf Rules ---
The Montana State Department of Fish and Wildlife advises golfers to take extra precautions and be on the alert for bears while playing on
Gallatin, Helena, and Lewis and Clark National Forests Golf Courses.
They advise golfers to wear noise-producing devices such as little bells on their clothing to alert, but not to startle, the bears unexpectedly.  They also advise you to carry pepper spray in the case of an encounter with a bear.
It is also a good idea to watch for signs of bear activity. Golfers should be able to 'recognize the difference' between Black bear and Grizzly bear droppings on the golf course. Black bear droppings are smaller and contain berries and possibly squirrel fur. Grizzly bear droppings have bells, golf-gloves and sunglasses in them, and smell like pepper spray.

Final Comments:
I am guessing nearly every day someone has one of those "zero" birthdays.  It may not be what that person wants to see happen, and he or she may not feel it is time for that "zero" birthday, but we all keep making those trips around the sun.  So why not do what I did a couple of weeks ago and celebrate that momentous occasion - and do that at the
Lincoln Valley clubhouse.  Some folks think it costs money because you have to rent the clubhouse.  That is not true.  It doesn't cost you a dime, unless, of course, you buy a few drinks for your friends.  Call 483-2054 to book your next "trip around the sun" party.
