News at the Course:
Hi there, I am back and anxious to continue on with my little part of your reading pleasure.  My wife, daughters, and I did our part in stimulating the California economy and had a fabulous time.  As you know, though, it is always great to get back to Iowa.
Before I left for vacation, I was able to help with the transformation of the grounds outside the clubhouse, using money donated from the Jerry Poling memorial.  Gary Underwood did a super job leading the forces and ordering plants from Earl May.  The crew on various days consisted of Dustin Eggers and his grounds crew, Sara Morgan, my daughter Carley, Jim Figgins, Claudie McClain, and Mike Hotopp.  Alan Eckhardt donated the rocks, and Mike Needham and his crew delivered them.  If I don't say so myself, it looks very very nice.
Another deserving thanks is needed for Harlan Kloppenborg and his crew for helping Dustin get the bridge by #17 fixed.  I worried that bridge might go down one day.  Now it is secure and level.  The bellies of many carts will appreciate the correction!
As many of us know, it takes many volunteers to make a golf course go.  I know there are many members who have done their part and also deserve thanks.  I also know there are many who do not need or want the recognition; they just do their part because that is the right thing to do.  Thank you!

Life's Lessons Continued...
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

Church Jokes
Three boys are in the school yard bragging about their fathers. The first boy says, "My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a poem, and they give him $50."
The second boy says, "That's nothing. My dad scribbles a few words on piece of paper, he calls it a song, and they give him $100."
The third boy says, "I got you both beat. My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a sermon, and it takes eight people to collect all the money!"

Parting Putt:
Nominations for board members are due to Aaron at the clubhouse by August 17.  It is a good idea to talk to a person before you nominate him/her.  There are three spots open, and board members serve three-year terms.  The election will occur the first couple of weeks of September, and the new board will take over at the annual membership meeting which will be September 20 or 27.
