Golf Course Rules

The 9-mile rule is in effect for the 2010 season.  This means if you live within 9 miles of Lincoln Valley you must be a member in order to play golf or part in any social activity.  This includes men’s league, ladies night, couples night, over 50 and seniors golf events.

All people playing must register at the golf shop before teeing off.

Wednesday night will be Ladies’ Night, and no one except female members and their guests will be allowed to play on front or back 9 only.  The other 9 will remain open during Ladies’ Night. No one under 18 years of age will be allowed on the course except with the club manager’s permission.

Thursday is Men’s Day. The same rules apply for Men’s Day as they do on Ladies’ Day. After 5:30 only men’s association members are permitted.

No groups larger than a foursome will be allowed on the course, except during tournaments or with manager’s permission.

Shirts will be worn at all times.

Everyone playing must have their own set of clubs and bag.

Golf Carts

LINCOLN VALLEY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE OR THEFT OF ANY GOLF CART OR OTHER EQUIPMENT.

Motorized and pull golf carts may be rented at the pro-shop when registering. If the renter leaves and then comes back the same day, he will be required to pay again. You must be sixteen and have a valid driver’s license to rent a motorized cart.

Members who are multi-owners of motorized golf carts pay single normal storage fee for the golf cart: however, each individually the full trail fee required of all motorized cart owners

Members with carts stored at the club will pay a fee per year. The fee includes storage and trail fees. If just used and not stored at the clubhouse, the trail fee is paid. Anyone using a cart other than their own must pay an $8.00 per day trail fee. Members may pay $100.00 plus tax for the 2010 golf season. It will cost non-members $8.00 per day to put their carts on the course, tournaments exempt.

Any rental storage or seasonal use must be paid by April 15. The rent should be paid to the clubhouse manager. Electric cart storage cost for the 2010 season is $120.00 plus tax. Gas cart storage cost for the 2010 season is $100.00 plus tax. Cart shed spots will be forfeited if not paid by the 15th or on budget billing.

Anyone using carts on the Lincoln Valley must use them with common sense and discretion. Anyone not doing so will lose the right to operate a cart on the course. The course superintendent or clubhouse manager will have the power to suspend the right of anyone abusing his or her cart privilege.

Carts should never be driven on the tee, on the fringe of a green, or close to newly planted trees or sand traps.

PRIVATE CARTS OWNED BY MEMBERS MAY ONLY BE USED BY THE OWNER OR HIS IMMEDIAE FAMILY listed under their membership up to the age of 22, or self- supporting.

The course superintendent would like to see tires 8 1/2 inches wide. He will possibly allow tires narrower, but he has the right not to allow any cart on the course for this or any other reason he feels might jeopardize the condition of the course. He will also determine when carts will be allowed on the course in the spring, and any other day of the golfing season.

GOLF COURSE GROUND RULES

Lost Ball- (or out of bounds) play next stroke as near as possible to the spot from which the original ball was played, adding a penalty stroke to this score for the hole.

Provisional Ball- if ball may be lost or may be out of bounds, to save time the player may play anther ball provisionally as nearly as possible from the spot at which the original ball was played. If the original ball is lost or out of bounds the provisional ball becomes the ball in play, under penalty of stroke and distance.

Water Hazard- if a ball lies or is lost in a water hazard (whether the ball lie in water or not): the player may drop a ball under penalty of one stroke: (a) behind the water hazard, keeping the spot at which the ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard between himself and the hole (b) as near as possible to the spot from which the original ball was played.

Lateral Water Hazard - the same as a water hazard plus under the penalty of one stroke drop a ball outside the hazard within two club lengths of the point where the ball last crossed the margin of the hazard or a point on the opposite margin equal distance from the hole.

Unplayable – may be declared unplayable anywhere except in a water hazard: If unplayable (1) play as lost ball, (2) drop a ball, under penalty of one stroke, either (a) within two club lengths of the point where the ball lay, but not nearer, the hole or (b) behind the point where the ball lay, keeping the point between himself and the hole, with no limit to how far behind the hole the ball may be dropped; if the ball be in a bunker, it must be dropped in the bunker.

Ground under repair - taking relief the player should determine the nearest point which (a) is not nearer the hole (b) avoids interference by the condition and (c) is not a hazard or on a putting green. The player should lift the ball and drop it without penalty within two club lengths of the point thus determined on the ground which fulfills a, b and c above.

ALL GROUND UNDER REPAIR WILL BE MARKED

BY GROUNDS SUPERINTENDENT

GOLF COURSE ETIQUETTE

  1. Don’t move, talk, make noise or do anything, which might disturb a player about to make a stroke. Don’t stand close to a player who is addressing the ball or in a line behind the ball where he can see you. Don’t offer unsolicited advice.
  2. The play or side who has honors should be allowed to tee off first before their opponents.
  3. Do not hit your next shot until the group in front of you is out of range. If your shot looks as if it may hit someone, yell "Fore" immediately, loudly. If someone yells “Fore" at your group, immediately turn away from the direction of the warning and bend over with hands over your head.
  4. Always replace divots, repair ball and spike marks on the green, even if they’re not yours. When entering a sand trap, always use the point nearest your ball to enter and leave the trap, smoothing the trap with the rake when you are finished. No steel spikes allowed.
  5. Don’t drop your bag, put a cart or drive a golf cart on the green or tee. Avoid damaging the green by dropping the flagstick or standing close to the hole. Don’t step on the line of any putts in your group. Immediately, after holing out on the green, your group should move to the next tee and mark your score there.
  6. If there is a space between your group and the group in front of yours, and the group behind you is waiting on you, wave them on through your group. Don’t continue play until they are out of range of your next shots. Do the same with a lost ball. Don’t wait five minutes before waving them through; do it as soon as you realize your ball is lost. Use common sense when considering waving a group through.
  7. When putting on the green, allow the person farthest from the hole to putt first. The use of continuous putting speeds up play.
  8. Always replace the flagstick carefully so as not to damage the hole.
  9. Do not litter on the course. Leave the course in the condition for others that you would like to have it yourself.
  10. When someone in your group is hitting, everyone should be watching to help in the location of the ball.
  11. Groups should never jump onto tees other than the next hole they are scheduled to play.

LIGHTNING SAFETY

Lightning causes many deaths and injuries on golf courses. Here are some precautions:

  1. Delay starting, or call off a match before an electrical storm is near enough to be hazardous.
  2. If you are caught in a dangerous situation, keep away from: small exposed shelters, isolated trees, wire fences, hilltops and opened spaces.
  3. You should seek shelter in depressions, at the foot of a hill, dense woods, groves of trees, or lie flat.
  4. Remember your clubs and umbrellas are probably metal, so they may help attract lighting.
  5. You must clear course when horn is sounded.

CHILDREN

The Lincoln Valley Golf Course encourages the play of our younger members. Parental guidance will be appreciated and is needed in teaching youth skillful play and good golf course etiquette.

1. Any child eleven years of age and younger must be accompanied by a parent or an adult unless deemed unnecessary by the club manager. Children must be 14 years of age with a valid driver’s license to drive club carts, unless supervised by an adult.

2. Any child twelve or older may play anytime during the week without supervision, except for scheduled club activities. On Saturday and Sunday, an adult supervisor must accompany them.

3. Any child eleven years old or younger is not to be left alone in the clubhouse or the putting green area. An adult supervisor must accompany them.

4. The practice green is for practice with a putter only. The above rules apply t o the practice green as well as the rest of the course.

Lincoln Valley History

The idea of building a golf course in the West Marshall area originated in 1973. A group of Jaycees took it upon themselves to investigate the possibilities of acquiring land for the project. In May of 1976, the Gutekunst Public Library Board approved the leasing the 80 acres of land 1 1/2 miles east of State Center to build the golf course.

Water was the main concern of the project in the summer of 1977. No natural water source could be found to supply the quantity needed for a golf course. Another source needed to be located. The town of State Center agreed to furnish the water. The course could now start to take shape.

In July of 1977 Midwest Irrigation started to construct our course. In September, the water line to State Center was laid. The bridges that were needed to cross the creek that runs through the course were completed in November.

In May, the brickwork on the outside of the clubhouse was being put on, with much work to be done on the inside of the building. In June, work was hectic, trying to meet the Grand Opening date of July 1.

The basic structure was finished by July 1 1978. Many more things have to be done before the building could be finished. Minor building projects will continue for years.

The name of the Lincoln Valley Golf Course originated from the fact the course lies in a valley between old "Lincoln" Highway 30 and the new "Lincoln" Highway 30.

In 1992 plans began to formulate for the addition for another 9 holes. Feasibility studies were completed along with the design. Members voted in favor of the addition. Groundwork began in August 1993 with major completion scheduled for October 1993. A wet fall and severe wind erosion plagued 1994, causing re-seeding and additional dirt moving. A projected completion date was scheduled for the spring of 1995. The new nine holes opened for play on May 26, 1995. Further work and planting of trees continued through the summer and fall.

In 2008, Harlan and Jeanette Kloppenborg began the process of buying the land from the Gutekunst library. The process was slow moving and in the spring of 2009 a special meeting of the membership was called and the severity of the debt was explained. The members came forward with enough pledges to open the course. The purchase of the land was finalized and Harlan and Jeanette became the owners of the course.  Through the generous donations of Harlan and Jeanette and several other individuals, the debt was paid off and the course was debt free going into the 2010 season.

2010 Calendar

Any changes due to weather, conflicts or other problems will be posted at Lincoln Valley or sent in an email. If there is question of a cancellation of short notice, such as a blizzard, listen to KFJB & KDAO.

The committees will be responsible for contacting the clubhouse manager and finding what will be required for each scheduled event.

Couple’s Night

There will be Couple’s’ Night on Friday nights starting at 6:00 p.m. There are two couple’s in charge each week to collect the fee and take care of drawing for groups and scoring.

Handicap

You will have to sign up for a handicap and then record your scores. After you have recorded five scores, you will have established your handicap. We will also be using the equitable stroke control again this year. If you have any questions, please ask at the clubhouse.
